If you no longer want to share a space with someone, regardless of the duration and context of the relationship, formally end it. Do not disappear, ignore, avoid, lie, etc. Respect the time and energy he/she brought to your life and with kindness close the space. If you are mature enough to begin a relationship you must be courageous enough to end it.
It is unacceptable, disrespectful, immature and cowardly to not formally end a relationship. Emotions, situations and circumstances change, but it is unhealthy to avoid. This is applicable to all relationship dynamics both professional and personal.
Ask yourself, 'How would I want someone to end a relationship with me?'
Always choose to be compassionate, respectful and kind. - Misha N. Granado, MPH, MS
